ATP A107
Remote Pilot Aircraft System Part 107
Credits: 1
Asynchronous online
Introduces the history, applications, and technologies of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Prepares the student to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 test.
ATP A207
Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Applications
Credits: 1
Asynchronous online
Introduces major subsystems common to most Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), and provides advanced UAS platform training.
Covers UAS power systems, autopilot systems, user-interface software, sensors, aerodynamics, flight controls, airborne communication systems, as well as mission design, planning, execution, and analysis.
Includes the challenges of UAS integration into the national airspace system, crew qualifications and training, safety, and human factors.
ATP A208
Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Flight Operations
Credits: 1
In person
Presents the practical elements of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems flight operations.
Exposes students to physical interaction with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and flight in the National Airspace System (NAS) after completion of the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 license and the advanced drone operations course.
Special Note: Enrolled students must present a current FAA Part 107 license.

ATP A107 and ATP A207 are asynchronous online. You will have two weeks to complete each course. ATP A208 is an in-person course that will last one week and will be scheduled based on weather. There needs to be daylight to fly the drones, so the timing of the class will be subject to daylight hours. You need to have your Part 107 license from the FAA to take ATP A208.
If you do not already have your Part 107 license, also known as a Remote Pilot Certificate, you will need to take ATP A107 or get your Part 107 license. After that, the order of the courses depends on the semester. Since ATP A208 involves flying drones, it must be done when the weather is good. During the Fall semester, ATP A208 will come first, and then ATP A207. In the Spring semester, the order will be reversed.If you do not already have your Part 107 license, also known as a Remote Pilot Certificate, you will need to take ATP A107 or get your Part 107 license. There are different levels of certification. If you complete ATP 107, 207, and 208, you can obtain a certification from the University of Alaska Aviation Technology program. If you complete ATP 107, 207, and 208 and take an additional six credits, you will get an occupational endorsement certificate. These certificates provide the specialized knowledge and skills needed in specific employment sectors.
Any aviation or GIS class will count towards a certification. We are flexible, but it is still a good idea to check with the instructor to confirm your certification plan.

If you want to learn from beginning to end about how to use and process data collected by drones, then these courses are for you. Anyone who is paid to fly drones must have a Part 107 license. Also, if you use Federal funds to fly drones, you must have a Part 107 license. If you want help achieving your Part 107 license, then the first course is for you. However, flying drones is only a small part of being a drone pilot. There is also gaining experience flying drones (ATP A208) and processing data collected by drones (ATP A207).
We use Pix4D, a top-of-the-line software, to process imagery.
