360° Images of Southcentral Fuel Treatments
This webmap gives you an immersive view of fuel treatments across Southcentral Alaska. Embedded 360 degree images and videos can be panned with the mouse to see in all directions, giving a full picture of what different treatments look like. Areas in the map include both new and old treatments as well as untreated areas, letting you see how treatments evolve and grow back over time. Currently, the map displays 17 100 meter photo/video walkthroughs of 7 proposed or existing fuel treatment areas in the Municipality of Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula Borough, along with photos from around 70 preset monitoring points set by the Fish and Wildlife Service near Sterling.
How to Use
To change the view of the webmap, tap and drag to move location and pinch or scroll to zoom in or out. The default view shows all of the Anchorage-area locations, the Kenai Strategic Fuel Break is to the southwest (down and to the left). To choose your desired basemap, go to the box in the top right and select an option. Fuelbreak location are color-coded, and you can view a legend of the colors by clicking the legend box in the bottom right corner. To view 360° images of a fuel treatment, tap on the color-coded circles and drag image to see in different directions. To view 360° walkthrough videos, tap the orange line by a given set of images. By default, the view of the video cannot be changed, but if you open the video in a new YouTube tab you can change direction. Visibility of images and videos can be toggled in the upper right panel to make it easier to see and reach the desired one. You can also make the map fullscreen via the button in the top left if you so desire.

Kenai Peninsula Borough: Kenai Strategic Fuelbreak (5 walkthroughs, three near Three Johns Road, one near Moose River, and one near the Grandview Fire scar, along with 70 preset monitoring points in the same area)
Methods
Photos and videos were taken by Springer Moore and Adina Salant between May and July 2026 using an Insta360 X5 camera and an EOS Arrow 100 for geolocation. The webmap was created by Springer Moore using the JavaScript library Leaflet.
